There’s More To Creating A Brand Than Just Being Unique

by Jeremy Martin on June 4, 2009

Create A BrandWhat does it mean to create a brand? Does it mean to have a unique logo? Is it your tag line or motto? Those are definitely part of it but there is really a whole lot more.

When you are focusing on creating a brand that will set yourself apart from your competition, there are the obvious ways, like the ones I mentioned above and then there are the not so obvious ways.

Creating a brand is much more than just having a unique design, style or way of doing business. It is also how you present yourself to visitors that come to your site. It is how you treat those visitors. The way in which you serve them. Do you follow through with the promises that you make, do you provide what you say you would? If you focus on treating your visitors/customers right then you will leave a lot of the brand creation up to them. People are much more likely to share negative experiences with their friends or families. If they have a great experience, they will share that as well. That is how you can truly create a brand that people will remember. Give them an experience that they will remember.

It is really incredible to me that some businesses such as car dealerships, health care providers and even web based businesses spend a lot of time and money to create a name for themselves, but fall short on providing an experience that keeps their customers from passing along referrals and ultimately returning.

I will get off my soap box now, but I would like to hear some of your experiences. Both good and bad. How do you think you can improve your brand or your businesses reputation?
